Staff Spotlight- Jeanne Diederich

Office of Research Staff Spotlight- Jeanne Diederich, ORIP/IRB Administrator

If you have conducted research that involved human subjects at Syracuse University, then you are familiar with the Office of Research Integrity and Protections (ORIP) and the Human Research Protection Program/Institutional Review Board (IRB).  If you are a faculty or student researcher, chances are you also familiar with Jeanne Diederich in her role as IRB Administrator.  Having been in this position since 2005, Jeanne is a valuable resource for ORIP and the IRB.  Blending her experience and expertise in education, writing, and regulatory compliance, she often works one-on-one with researchers helping them navigate their research design through the path of 45 CFR Part 46 (The Common Rule) which protects human subject participants in research.  There are many nuances to this work and Jeanne’s skill set is a unique and specialized asset to the University’s Office of Research and the IRB.

Jeanne has recently been awarded The Arthur O. Eve Higher Education Opportunity Program (HEOP) and TRIOs Student Support Services (SSS) Ally Award for her service to and support of the programs of HEOP.  Nominated by a student she guided through the IRB process; this is an especially meaningful recognition of the care with which Jeanne has worked with researchers for the past 19 years.  We are all very proud to be close colleagues of Jeanne, and we are grateful to continue to learn from her and be inspired by her work.
